What a long and crazy journey this year’s Presidential Election has been, and how so many people are glad that it’s over.  From our two candidates throwing insults at each other over social media, to rioting through the streets leading up to and after the election.  No presidential election has ever been so erratic.

Some people might be wondering why so many people of young age got so emotionally involved over this election as opposed to past elections when it seemed as if our peers didn't even bat an eye. Well the answer is social media.  In January 2016, 44% of U.S. adults reported having learned about the 2016 presidential election in the past week from social media, outpacing both local and national print newspapers.  And as some of us may know, social media websites aren’t always the most reliable source when you're looking for the facts.          The amount of candidates tweets for electoral campaigning outnumber any other source nearly 4 to 1.  This may become a problem when the information you're receiving isn't 100% factual.

The Polls At Foothills

Now, as for the students at San Tan Foothills, the election wouldn't have ended up so differently than it really did.  A survey of students was taken to get their votes on who they would have, or did, vote for in the 2016 presidential election.  Trump came out on top with 52% of the votes, Hillary with 32%, and third party candidates came out with 16%.  So if all of us here at foothills had the choice of the president, looks like we wouldn't get a very different result.
