Maintaining Your Stress

- Lynnsey Aran

What does the word Anxiety mean? For some it means stress, headaches, shortness of breath. For others it may mean crying and over-thinking of simple things. All of this is very true when it comes to anxiety.

Many experience the symptoms at much higher levels than others. Sometimes the anxiety can be caused by social media. Our youth today is exposed to all that is wrong in the world and absorbs it up like a sponge does with water. Often, anxiety is caused by depression/stress, either genetically or by itself. Anxiety produces clammy hands, accelerated heart rates and paralysis of the thinking process.

Some things to take into account for how to  hinder stress would be:

  • Get enough sleep - When you are stressed, sleep can be the best factor in feeling better.

  • Take deep breaths - If you inhale & exhale slowly it will calm you down more easily than taking shallow breaths.

  • Learn what triggers your anxiety - If you can easily figure out what makes you so anxious, then you can solve that problem before it gets out of hand.

  • Do your best - So what if you didn’t get that 100? You still did what you could and that is all that matters.

  • Maintain a positive attitude - Staying positive can make for a better outcome within yourself and your attitude.

  • Talk to someone - Venting it out is the best way that you can get rid of stress, whether it’s online or to a friend.

  • Distract yourself- Listening to music, drawing, and writing are great ways to rid your mind of that heaping mound

Welcome humor - Be energetic! Laugh at the corny jokes, laugh at the stupid ones; whatever it is just laugh and know that it will be okay.
