Hayden Montierth - Student of the Quarter

As a child, Hayden imagined himself running into burning buildings and saving lives as a firefighter. Today his dream is slightly milder, instead of saving buildings he’ll be creating them as an architect. No doubt those buildings will be fireproof and come complete with plenty of fire escapes. Hayden Montierth, our future architect, was chosen as one of our Senior Students of the Quarter for everything he does and everything he plans to do. Hayden wants his legacy to stand above the clouds. He wants to become the world’s greatest architect by designing the world’s first self sustaining skyscraper. This amazing building will power, heat, and cool itself. Hayden describes himself as a creative and driven leader, this hardly comes close to describing his character.

His perfect day depends less on what he does throughout that day, and more on how he starts that day. Hayden wakes up on a perfect day being well rested and ready for a relaxing day. Like most of us, spending time with his friends makes his day complete. In a tender moment, Hayden told me about the last road trip he went on. His mother, grandmother, and siblings piled in a car and headed to Disneyland during Winter Break. He told me about the many videos and pictures they took to capture the magic of this trip. One particularly hilarious video shows Hayden using straws as chopsticks to eat cheetos. Hayden’s favorite band is Green Day, and his favorite song by them, Boulevard of Broken Dreams. He fell in love with this song that was showed to him by his best friend and  cousin, Connor. He told me how he grew up listening to Green Day, their music has never left his life. When it comes to Science Fiction, Hayden is the king of binging shows. He watched all 35 seasons of Doctor Who, starting with the first episode from 1963, in one summer.

Hayden has gone his entire high school career without ever seeing the inside of the principal’s office, or really getting into trouble at all. He follows a straight path that has also helped him excel in school and even become a member of the National Honors society as a freshman. Hayden is always striving to go above and beyond in everything he does. Despites his dyslexia, he has always excelled in school and beaten the expectations others have set for him. This is only a sign of what’s to come.He sees San Tan Foothills as a place to grow not only as a student, but as a person. He’s always willing to learn, whether it’s a science lesson or a life lesson. I asked him about what he does to make San Tan Foothills a “Place for Greatness”, he told us “I’ve always tried to welcome the new kids and make them feel comfortable at school and I don’t mind intervening when I see someone being unkind.” His love for this school and it’s students is apparent in his actions and dreams, we are lucky to have such an amazing senior as our Student of the Quarter.

Student of the Quarter: Abigail Bryant-Hollandsworth

Abby describes herself as hard-working, cool, and sassy, these attributes are why she was chosen as one of our Students of the Quarter. Her perfect day is low key and relaxing. Abby would stay home all day, “eating chips and watching Grey's Anatomy with my mom.” It’s no surprise that Grey's Anatomy is her favorite show to binge, she brags about finishing 3 seasons in a month and a half. Abby’s taste for music is not limited to specifics bands, instead she listens to the Sam Smith radio on Pandora. Whatever has happened at the end of a long day, that radio is always there for her. Abby may love Sam Smith, but she does not have the same feeling for road trips. She has never liked road trips, she always tries to sleep through them. As a kid, she wanted to be an astronaut, showing that only a trip to space could keep her awake.

Abby stands out because of her impressive work ethic and her determination to learn more. She is currently taking Advanced Placement Calculus, perhaps the most challenging course on campus. She says, “I learn more and more about myself everyday and strive to be positive no matter what happens.” Abby told me she doesn’t like to take things too seriously, unless it’s school. She always has a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. Abby stays focused on her future and is always doing what she can to pass AP Calculus. Perhaps her biggest contribution to this school is her work on the STFHS yearbook, which she describes as a way of documenting, “how this year has truly made our school a Place for Greatness.” Of course, I couldn’t end this article without letting her add a plug for yearbook. She wants all students to know they can buy a yearbook for $30 in C114, and have the memories from this year forever!
