The DRAMAtic Interview with Mr. Carrell

Interviewer: Skyler

Article Writer: Lynnsey A.

“When I started teaching, I always wanted to teach drama because I had so much fun as a student myself.” This statement was given to us by none-other than Mr. Carrell, when we interviewed him on his role as Drama Club Advisor. Mr. Carrell credits his success on his ability to perfect using the insight of his students. As we got more into the conversation with him we saw just how much this club means to him and his class. To them it’s not just a club, but a career. This is their dream and we all get to experience that through their work.

Mr. Carrell has been in the theater industry since he was in high school, joining as a freshman and then leading the club his junior/senior year. Before he ever made it to San Tan Foothills, he taught Drama at another school, after the school board recognized his aptitude for teaching drama. Mr. Carrell is very happy to bring his knowledge and experience to San Tan Foothills hoping that it will inspire other talented kids to join the Drama Club.

We asked Mr. Carrell if he had any specific plays for the upcoming months and he gave us a very interesting answer. He said that the students are going to be able to write, star-in and direct in their very own plays! The students get to be like real time movie producers and scriptwriters and they also get to perform their plays in front of an audience! He also said that they will have another show in the month of May but a date has not been determined yet.

Learning all of this awesome information made me realize that the Drama Club is very important to Mr. Carrell and his students. They are working very hard to keep the club new and fresh and they are also working on empowering themselves and their skills in performance. A big thank you to Mr. Carrell for letting us do this interview with him and also to his Drama Club for helping our Arts Department shine brighter each and every day.
