The Celebration of Life

The Origin of Easter Traditions:

Most people understand the reasoning behind the celebration of Easter, but not many know what the Easter bunny and her eggs have to do with it. But look no further Sabercats! To start off the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s when German immigrants settled in Pennsylvania and transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Easter traditions such as the decoration of eggs is believed to date back to at least the 13th century, while the Easter bunny shows no meaning for Easter Sunday. Furthermore, one explanation for the reason why eggs are linked to Easter is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration

Rabbits are associated with Easter because they are known to be prolific procreators and are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life, representing the very reason most people celebrate a new life on anywhere between March 22-April 25. The date for the holiday changes every year because the earliest believers in the church of Asia Minor wished to keep the observance of Easter correlated to the Jewish Passover. And, since the Jewish holiday calendar is based on solar and lunar cycles, each feast day is movable, with dates shifting from year to year

From the Journalism team to you, we hope you all had a great Easter and we hope you have an amazing Summer, Sabercats!
