Playing with Passion

Gaming Club

By Eloniee Pope

If there is one teacher that understands the world of gaming, it is Mr. Sisto. As advisor for the Gaming Club, he gives members the opportunity to experience both sides of gaming, creating video games and playing them. In a stroke of genius, Mr. Sisto set up two rooms, one of them being a very quiet workspace where members can focus on creating, and another room where members can enjoy the endless fun of playing. This two-room approach means members are always active, and helps the Gaming Club stand out on campus.

Mr. Sisto’s goal for the club is to help kids who like to game from becoming isolated. This club helps bring like-minded people together to do something that they enjoy. He says “Even playing online is very solitary”. All across the board, there are many skills to be learned from gaming. Gaming even helps with many autistic and special needs students. The hardest thing for them to do is speak to others, but they can communicate through gaming by showcasing their skills. “Gaming is a language for them.” Mr. Sisto told us. He teaches his students how to play with respect and use respectful manners while gaming. He says gaming is a great way to interact with people your age and even other ages as well. Along with it being a great connector, communicator, and teacher, the members of the Gaming Club are having a lot of fun. The Gaming Club is just another example of the amazing things that have begun this year at San Tan Foothills.
