Davin De La Cruz:

Interviewing Davin De la Cruz for Student of the Month was a real pleasure, I rarely meet people so honest. Davin describes himself as shy, but caring and determined. Determination is even apart of Davin’s idea of a perfect day. His perfect day includes “being helpful to my friends and family as well as working hard”. He also added “Nothing is perfect in this world, but that doesn’t mean we can’t aim for perfection”. As a kid, Davin imagined himself becoming a firefighter, but more recently he has turned his sights toward a career as a music teacher. Davin’s favorite road trip had less to do with the destination, and more to do with the journey. He piled in a car with his family, and headed off to visit his Uncle in California. Along the way, he remembers the beautiful mountains of Arizona, tall skyscrapers in California, and plenty of traffic along the way that only made it more fun. That seven day trip still sticks with him today. His favorite band is Kana-Boon, he told us “their music always gives me goosebumps, energy, and makes me want to get up and dance all day.” It’s no surprise his favorite song is Baton Road, recently released by Kana-Boon. When it comes to binging, Davin’s first choice is Naruto. It took him a whole summer to finish the show, but I’m sure it was a summer well spent.

Davin’s proudest accomplishment is also a moment that shaped him as a person. He is very proud of his ability to play the piano, this was one of the first things he mastered. When we asked how he wants to be remembered, he told us simply “I want to be remembered for making the world a better place to live in.” Davin was rather surprised when we told him he was chosen as Student of the Month, but if he had to put a reason to it, it would be his improvement and progress in school. Davin tries to make sure that everyone he interacts with here at San Tan Foothills enjoys their time here. He ended our interview by saying “I’m proud to have been a Sabercat”. We’re proud to be Sabercats with you, Davin.

Student of the quarter: Leana Cruz

Leana Cruz, one of your Senior Student of the Quarter, describes herself as comical, honest, and caring. She showed us her honesty by telling us that her perfect day is “Any day that has a nap in it”. We can all agree with that! Always drawn to danger, she says that as a kid she wanted to be an FBI Agent or a Spy. When she wasn’t daydreaming about taking down the bad guy, she was spending time with her family. She recalled a family trip that lasted four days from Massachusetts to Arizona, the experience has still stuck with her. Her favorite band is One Direction, she admits to being “obsessed” with them in middle school. Who wasn't? Her favorite songs by 1D are Steal My Girl and Perfect. Leana loves to binge, she finished all of Criminal Minds in under three months, and she still goes back to rewatch it now and again.

Leana describes her proudest accomplishment as “pretty amazing”, which is the understatement of the century, considering her proudest moment is when she almost slept for 24 hours. She wants to be remembered as “someone who left their footprint on the earth, provided change for my society”. We asked Leana why she thought she was chosen as Student of the Quarter, she responded with “ ‘Cause I’m bad and boujee”. We will never forget Leana, how she became a leader for the Senior class and always expressed kindness.
