Alex Cabrera

Alex Cabrera:

Alex Cabrera is a true Sabercat, he describes himself as smart, silly, and caring. He looks for these attributes in his friends as well. Alex’s perfect day isn’t complete unless he’s surrounded by his friends doing what they love. He told us “I don’t require much for a perfect day, [I] just have to be with the people that care about me.” As a kid, Alex couldn’t decide between becoming a dentist or a professional baseball player. For most people, the salary would’ve decided it for them, but not Alex. Alex’s first road trip was just 10 short months ago, when he moved here from Pennsylvania. He admits this trip was very difficult for him. Alex’s favorite band is Twenty One Pilots, he attributes his love for them to “how none of their songs sound the same”. Heathens is his favorite song by Twenty One Pilots. Alex is proud of finishing 9 seasons of the TV show Supernatural in just a couple weeks.

Alex couldn’t pick just one of his accomplishments he was most proud of, he told us how proud he was of being able to go to state playoffs and also following his dreams by coming here to go to college. Alex wants to be remembered as “someone who made a difference in the world or just doing something to help out”. Alex always tries his hardest to treat others well in the classroom and apply himself in his studies. His determination is what makes him not only a great Sabercat, but our Student of the Month.

Julia Schouten:

Your junior student of the quarter may be quiet, but never shy. Julia leveled with me, describing herself as annoying and scatter brained, but she always tries to be fun as well. The sun doesn’t shine in Julia’s idea of a perfect day, it’s covered by rain clouds that force her to stay inside with a good book. She would stay by a window to watch the rain fall, relaxing “with some yummy snacks and a delicious drink.” You won’t find her singing in the rain, in fact Julia poked fun at her childhood dream of becoming a singer, because she was not gifted with a good singing voice when she grew up. Now she describes her attempts to sing as “dying whale noises”. Also as a kid, Julia took an awesome trip to Disneyland with her family. Although she can’t remember much of it, she does know that it was awesome. Her favorite band is Skillet, because no matter what kind of mood she is in, “I always love listening to [them]” she said. She admitted that it was ironic that her favorite song is not by her favorite band Skillet, instead it’s a cover of “This Is Halloween” she  found on Youtube. If you asked Julia to recommend a show for binge-watching, she would probably tell you about “Dark Angel”, a series set in the future based around superhuman prototypes.

Julia must be a superhuman prototype, that would explain all her accomplishments, but her proudest accomplishment would be being apart of the CAVIT program. “I love the vet program so much” she admitted, telling us about how much she learned from this great program. She especially loves the opportunity to work hands on with the animals. Julia says she complains a lot, but still maintains a good attitude and always works hard at whatever she’s doing. If you know Julia, you know of her surplus of school spirit, and her willingness to participate. She is always going above and beyond in encouraging others. Julia wants to be remembered “similar to how Johnny Depp will be [remembered]. I want to be a great influential person who was remembered for how she always did something for others and helped out in important ways.” No one could accuse her of being selfish. When we asked her why she thought she was chosen to be Student of the Quarter, she thought it might be random. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. As we have seen, Julia is a wonderful person with a big heart, no one could be more deserving of this award.
